Travel & Stay
About your flight
If you’re travelling from the Netherlands, a useful first step is to use a flight search engine like Skyscanner — this lets you compare many airlines, routes and travel dates at once. We prefer this over Google Flights.
There are direct flights from Amsterdam (AMS) to Punta Cana (PUJ) through TUI. Prices seem to vary a lot, so monitoring is recommended.
Besides the direct option, there are also routes with layovers — some recommendable routes are Madrid, Paris, Toronto or sometimes Frankfurt. These connecting flights can offer more flexibility in terms of dates and availability.
Because flight costs and availability can fluctuate a lot depending on season, booking date and flight demand, we recommend checking flights on Skyscanner regularly and booking as soon as you find a suitable option.
Where to Stay in Punta Cana
To help you plan your trip, we’ve put together a simple overview of the best and nicest areas to stay in Punta Cana and Bávaro. Each neighbourhood offers a slightly different atmosphere, from luxurious beachfront resorts to quiet gated communities or lively, walkable beach towns.
Cap Cana
Cap Cana is one of the most exclusive and secure areas in the Dominican Republic. It is a private, gated community known for its beautiful beaches, calm atmosphere, and luxury hotels. This area is ideal for couples, honeymooners, and families looking for privacy, comfort, and upscale amenities. Resorts such as Secrets Cap Cana, Hyatt Ziva/Zilara, and Sanctuary Cap Cana offer exceptional service, while private villas in the marina or Caleton area provide even more seclusion. You can find options on Airbnb.
Bávaro Beach (Resort Zone)
Bávaro Beach is the classic resort area of Punta Cana, home to many well-known all-inclusive hotels. It stretches along a wide, beautiful beach and offers convenient access to restaurants, activities, and transport. This is a great choice for you if you prefer a familiar resort experience with everything easily available on-site. Popular options here include Barceló Bávaro Palace, Lopesan Costa Bávaro, and Meliá Caribe Beach.
Los Corales & El Cortecito
This lively beach-town area sits between the larger resorts and offers a relaxed mix of local charm and tourist-friendly amenities. It is one of the most walkable parts of Punta Cana, with cafés, beach bars, shops, and restaurants all close together and directly by the beach. If you are looking to stay in a tourist area but not an all-inclusive hotel/resort, this is the place for you. This area offers a great mix of tourist and local interaction. Los Corales and El Cortecito are perfect for friends, younger couples or anyone who prefers a slightly more local atmosphere while still being near the beach. This area has a very active nightlife, thanks to the variety of bars and restaurants.
Cocotal (Gated Residential Area)
Cocotal Golf & Country Club is a quiet, residential neighbourhood built around a golf course, with gated access and 24-hour security. It offers spacious villas and apartments, making it ideal for families or groups who prefer a calm environment with plenty of privacy. The beach and the main resort area are only a short drive away, which makes Cocotal a peaceful base without feeling isolated. Apartments/villas can be found on Airbnb.
Vista Cana
Vista Cana is a modern, master-planned community located about 10–15 minutes from the beach. It offers a very safe and contemporary environment with newly built villas, townhouses, and apartments, along with walking trails, lakes, cafés, and sports facilities. This area is perfect for guests who appreciate modern design, quiet surroundings, and larger accommodations at more flexible prices. Vista Cana is especially convenient for groups or families who want space and comfort in a secure gated setting. This area offers similar comfort as Cocotal, however, with more facilities in the residential area. These homes can also be found on Airbnb.
